Random Acts of Thursday - What're you driving at?

So, it's likely I've posted before about what a car nerd I am. Possibly. I forget.

But really, all my friends growing up were similarly possessed. I had my first crush on a girl in kindergarten, partially because she was cute, but mostly because her mother dropped her off at school in a bright yellow '71 442.

Even then I was deep, no?
And I look back at the films I enjoyed as a kid, and so many of them involved cars that, subsequently, I wanted. It may explain why I had over 200 Hot Wheels and similar cars, that we'd drag out and race around the basement or front porch. It may explain why I still have over 200 Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, in this, the waning part of my 39th year on this planet. It may explain why I still gravitate toward the Hot Wheels display when I'm hanging around Target or the grocery store.I could do this the easy way, dear reader. I could give you the film, and you would then just need to guess which car I liked so much it made an impact on me through today. However, you know me, I don't do anything the easy way. As such, I'll give you the year of the film and the year and model of the car, you just need to identify the film.

Hint, one of these cars was in Monday's movie quote movie.

(1964) - 1964 Aston Martin DB5
(1968) - 1968 Mustang fastback
(1977) - 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III
(1977) - 1976 Lotus Esprit Type 79
(1977) - 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am
(1978) - 1973 Chevrolet Corvette
(1979) - 1973 Ford Falcon
(1980) - 1974 Dodge Monaco
(1981) - 1980 Lamborghini Countach LP400S
(1983) - 1976 Porsche 928
(1985) - 1967 Camaro
(1985) - 1981 DeLorean DMC12
(1985) - 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS
(1987) - 1959 Corvette
(1988) - 1986 Porsche Carrera Cabrio

Oh, what the heck, one more hint - I'll give you the colors. There are five black ones, two silver, two gray, one red, one orange, one green, one white and two two-tones. Isn't that helpful? Of course it is.

Google away, phone a friend, activate that NetFlix membership. I know it's not easy, they never are. But since I don't want you just spinning your wheels, I find this to be of great assistance.

I can't look at a Lamborghini without thinking "Sunstreaker and Sideswipe".

Even if neither of them were white.

Oh you're talking about cars?

That's really interes...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I still have my Matchbox cars (including a London double decker bus). After reading your post, I want to find them.

The DeLorean from 85 has to be Back to the Future. What do I win? ;)

It embarrasses me a little that I had to look up 'Sunstreaker and Sideswipe'. I was already committed to Hot Wheels and Legos when the Transformers (and their lesser-liked cousins, the GoBots) came on the scene.

Melissa, cars are very interesting. Go get a cup of coffee and come back.

LTG, you 'win' the knowledge that you got one of the fifteen. And the desire to dig out your old Matchbox cars.

I'm sorry...all cars look the same to me, just like all beers taste the same to me. Does it get me from point A to point B? Does it have the proper climate control for the climate in which I'm driving? Does it have a CD player? Is it paid for? That's all I need.

And you say that, and I must retort by pointing out that that Australian actor you like, Russ something-or-other, is really no different an actor than Yahoo Serious. Are they actors? Are they Australian? That's all I need.

It's okay. They always have a special place in my heart because Sunstreaker was my first Transformer and because Sideswipe...uh...was his twin brother?

Yeah, we'll go with that.

I'm with Melissa on this one. Along the lines of famous cars, you've got Back to the Future, Dukes of Hazzard, Magnum, Bond, Smokey and the Bandit (my fave!), etc. Surely I got one right. And if you'd like to talk Transformers, I'm your gal. But all my knowledge was gained in the last 6 months. Off to go put on my Bumblee helmet!

There are two Bond movies (and two Bonds) in the list, as well as two Burt Reynolds films, among others.

Luke Skywalker makes the list but not Han Solo.

Dukes of Hazzard and Magnum were television, and yes, I loved them but they're not included on this list.

Well, then "The Car" seems like a good guess. Or "Christine". I feel like the Mustang from "Gone in 60 Seconds" should be on the list. And, yeah, Magnum was TV. I wasn't focusing on movies, just cars. But in fairness, Dukes was a movie, too.

'The Car' is in there. Christine is not, I'm not a Chrysler guy. 'Gone in 60 Seconds' - the remake - wasn't out when I was a wee lad, and the original didn't exist as far as our non-cable-having family was concerned. As for 'Dukes', that was far later than the show of my youth, too.

I don't mean to be defensive, but I feel like I am. Why am I justifying my film choices from the list above? I am the Quiz Master! I am the NFG, dammit!
