Random Acts of Thursday - A Test in Three Acts

First off, let me just say once again that I was remiss in my posting.  Tuesday would have been Akira Kurosawa's 100th birthday, and I missed the chance to do an appropriate tribute.  TCM was running his films all day, but I only saw a little bit of Nora Inu.  Pity.

However, if I start quizzing you on Kurosawa films, I will hear blog crickets, as I'm doubtful any of you are quite the fans I am, and I'm horrible.

However, I do have a brilliant little quizzo for you kids today, and unlike most of these, there are ten questions, a simple 10% for each question.  Some characters are timeless.  Like Urkel.  Some are so timeless, real or fictional, that more than one actor has portrayed the character historically.  I believe the record I found was the one time I researched Santa Claus for last December's quizzes, and found that over 600 actors have played the right jolly old elf in the history of film.  These are hopefully easier.

Three actors, one common role.  To make life a little more difficult, several actors show up more than once.   Because they are, after all, actors.  Identify which character each set of actors has portrayed.

1:  Peter Cushing, John Pertwee, David Tennant

2:  Ethan Embry, Johnny Galecki, Anthony Michael Hall

3:  Dean Cain, Christopher Reeve, George Reeves

4:  Barbara Stanwyk, Elizabeth Berridge, Ethel Merman

5:  Val Kilmer, Robert Lowery, Michael Keaton

6:  Kevin Costner, Robert Stack, Tom Amandes

7:  Kurt Russell, Shaun Weiss, Bruce Campbell

8:  George Lazenby, David Niven, Timothy Dalton

9:  Kirk Douglas, Val Kilmer, Douglas Fowley

10: Burt Lancaster, Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell

Let's see your guesses!

I really stink at these kinds of things. I think I only know three of them, and I'm not even sure about those. My guesses:

3. Superman
5. Batman
8. James Bond

If I'd have known there was going to be a test when I popped in here, I would have studied first. HA!

Ok, first? Kurosawa? You can quiz me anytime because I'm an EXPERT! Love him! I would have his babies if that thought didn't make me all "Ewww, gross he's like 100"

Secondly, I got Dr. Who, Batman, Superman and James Bond. That's it - cause I'm lame.

But Kurosawa? I know that shit!

Woohoo! A quiz I (think) I know 30-40% of the answers! Let me adjust my helmet & start guessing:
1. Dr. Who (I'm a BBC nerd)
2. Rusty - Vacation movies
3. Superman
5. Batman?
8. Bond

I've heard of Kirosawa but mainly b/c of the BNL song "One Week". Sorry. Hope we can still be friends. : )

Wow, you're doing well already today! Yay, this makes me happy.

Daisy, Mondays and Thursdays are quiz days. In order to prepare, you should spend every waking moment watching every film ever made, in the event it comes up. Could be on the test, you know.

Calico, I'm sure you'd put me to shame on the Kurosawa front, but I'm glad I'm not alone in my little bloggy world.

Tracey, go back and read the old Kurosawa post from the link, it will give you some idea of what to expect.

Elliott said...

Oh, Sarah, four out of ten? 6 and 10 are wrong, though Ness is on the list...

Okay, I'm completely horrible at quizzes and it is anathema to me to do something that I'm not going to win, but I love the idea behind this quiz so I'm giving it my meager all:

2) Rusty Griswold

3) Superman

4) Annie Oakley?

5) Batman

8) James Bond

Also, apparently Val Kilmer and Kevin Costner looooove cinematic sloppy seconds.

Ginger, way to go! Excellent.

TKOG, I'm sure Val and Kevin would prefer to think of it as 'classic character portrayal', but then, one can put a spin on anything, right?

I only got three, and they turned out to be the same three that Daisy got. Well done, D!

I admit to knowing next to nothing about Kurosawa. In fact, the only thing I know about him is from a line in a BNL song, "Like Kurasawa I make mad films. 'K, I don't make films, but if I did they'd have a samurai."

I'm at work so I have precious little time to complete this but #1 makes my heart go pitter-pat. Oh, Dr. Who, how I love thee. I'm afraid it's going to take me some time to get used to the new one.

Elliott said...

That's okay, Bev, it's all good dans la maison.

Gwen, I'm trying to reserve judgment on the new guy, but it's tough. He's got a long climb ahead just to get to even ground in my mind.

Duuuuude.. great quiz and I think I got most of 'em.

1. Dr. Who
2. Griswold son
3. Superman
4. Annie Oakley
5. Batman
6. Elliot Ness
7. Elvis? I know Shaun and Kurt played him; not sure about Bruce.
8. Bond
9. Doc Holliday?
10. Wyatt Earp

Here's one for you:

Beau Bridges, Anthony Hopkins, Harry Shearer

Elliott said...

Cary, I think you got them all, if I ignore the question marks.

I didn't know yours off the top of my head, I had to go digging. Tough, I can always only see Shearer as Derek Smalls.

Cary McNeal said...

I started to list Frank Langella, but that's a dead giveaway.

Cary McNeal said...

Oh, and I loved Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.

Elliott said...

Langella has such a presence about him. And yes, Kilmer's Holliday was awesome.

Edward Hermann, Alan Cumming, Jon Voight?
