Fun Fact Friday - Talk Amongst Yourselves

I'll give you a topic...how has the Internet allowed the world to become smaller, making my cross-country moves nearly insignificant in the lives of most people with whom I interact? Discuss.

Forewarned is forearmed. So are these guys.

I start a new job in less than two weeks, 1000 miles from our current home. We are selling our current home, and trying to find a nice place to live in parts unknown, so we can be full-time Ohioans by the second week of May. Before I start that new job, I have lots to accomplish in the current one, to make my departure less painful. (That's my ego, they're probably planning the party already.)

As such, I have no 'fun fact' today. Because nobody has taken advantage of the email button in the upper right to Ask the Nerdy Fat Guy the 'question of the ages', and because I'm a little preoccupied, there's very little in the way of content today.

Go read a book or two instead. It's good for you.

Please take this as an apology, dear reader. You mean the world to me, expressing your joy at each and every one of my new posts (unless it falls on a Saturday.) However, because of the amount of travel and work coming in the next two months, posts may be sparse. Some of you may be called upon to take up the torch, to fill in the gaps, nerd-wise.

On the up-side, my sister, who claims I currently "write too much" for her to keep up with, might actually start reading CDS again. One can only hope.

If she does, I'll be verklempt.

Wait...you're moving to Ohio?

I thought you were moving back to Wisconsin.

So, huh. I guess that's why you should never assume. Or go into anything with only half the knowledge.

Congrats again on your new gig & impending move to O-ho-ho.

On a selfish personal note, does this mean our double date at the end of April is off? *sulks*

Wisconsin, Ohio, they're both bordered by Great Lakes and full of good immigrant-inspired food. Close enough.

Bev, I'll be 'home' (in Florida) that weekend, still planning to get together. I'm sure we'll need the decompression time and how could we miss an opportunity like that?

Well, Ohio is on the way to Wisconsin, so you're going in the right direction, at least.

Assuming that you want to get back to Wisconsin, of course.

It's a third the distance to Wisconsin versus our current location, meaning we can drive home to visit family on weekends rather than planning trips months in advance, kenneling the dog and renting a car once we get there.

And we'd love to be back in WI, but it was foolish professionally to turn down this opportunity. And some day, I hope my retirement plan consists of something besides dying at my desk.

Good luck on your move - I'm being sincere, not my usual sarcastic self. : )
We move the first week of June - like you we're headed north of our current home, but we're passing you & going straight on to Toronto.
i don't mind now b/c we've got decent weather, but we'll see how I feel once January rolls around. : )

There's a co-worker here from Ohio. We spend much of our time making fun of her....I mean, she only lived miles from Kentucky...fair game, right?

And, it's always people from Ohio, in the news...locking their kids in dog kennels during the day.....for example. :-)

Good luck on the packing, and the moving, and all the other stuff in between.

A new job...completely fun and awesome...yes??

Tracey, moving seems to be the thing to do. Make sure you wave as you pass by!

Nej, I think northern Ohio and southern Ohio are two different animals, but what do I know? For me, I only see all the horrible news stories that come out of Florida and Wisconsin. I guess it's a matter of personal interest, no?

New job should be completely fun and awesome. As for the packing and moving, not so much.

Yes, there are strange and freaky people everywhere. You just pay more attention when you recognize the location. :-)

What part of Ohio?

I hope you'll keep posting on the regular. I don't always comment, but I read your blog daily.

Moving sucks! But, hey, at least you're moving out of Florida. God's waiting room. But if you're happy about it, then I'm happy for you!

Moving stinks, but we'll be happy to welcome you back to the Midwest, my friend! And never apologize for your blog. I have more fun reading your stuff that most things I have to read! :)

As my move isn't a year old yet, the memories remain fresh... at least there is more than one of you. I hope to not go through it again anytime soon, but being back where I feel alive is so worth it.
This sounds like a good move for you - and blog fodder, of course!

You're a real gem Elliott and I wish you all the best in your new adventure. I know it's quite a feat to pick up and move so far, I've done it a couple of times, and I commend you for going through so much change with your humor and optimism. Happy trails and I look forward to hearing from you whenever you have the time!

Be nice and share!
