Random Acts of Thursday - Road Trip Randomosity

As I may have mentioned, I had a lot of time to myself in the car on the drive from Florida to Ohio. This meant lots of time to devise quiz questions for the lot of you while taking advantage of my 90-day free trial of XM radio. Show your work, kids!

1) Name four songs about Ohio
2) We drove through a lot of other states on our way here from Florida, but only one of those states features in 'classic' song lyrics (meaning song lyrics I've heard, or song lyrics that WEREN'T first released in the last year.) Name two songs that feature this state in the title.

3) Name three other states mentioned by name in song lyrics.
4) Name three television shows based in Ohio.

5) If you didn't come up with CSNY's 'Ohio' as one of the answers to Question 1, shame on you. This song commemorated a tragic event that passed its 40th anniversary on May 4th. What university is referenced in this song?
6) Speaking of four dead in Ohio, my new state is referred to as 'The Mother of Presidents', having produced eight out of 44 US presidents. All eight are dead. Name four of them.

7) One of those men was president while the events portrayed in the film 'Young Guns' took place. Another later president shares his first name and middle initial with an artist whose song sampled the film. Name the artist and song, along with both presidents.
8) Because the pinnacle of success for any musical artist should be a fine luxury automobile, name three songs that center around Cadillacs.

9) Which Ohio-born former president is the namesake of the elementary school in a holiday classic filmed, in part, in Cleveland, though based in another state entirely? I've told you once.  Go ask Mjenks, he knows.
10) Which movie based in Cleveland and featuring one of the stars of Young Guns was filmed, in part, in my home town of Milwaukee?

As always, I grade on a curve. Partial credit will be given for partial answers. No credit will be given for smart remarks, unless they're really funny.

I know nine. WGH. Can I leave it at that? Because you know that I know how much you and I both love that movie.

Which was filmed in Cleveland.

Also the home to TDC Show.

I'm really hoping that Grover Cleveland was one of the Presidents, because I love it when things work out that way.

In no order, and answered only partially: Kent State, Drew Carey Show, Pink Cadillac..

What'd I win?

Jenks, figured I'd see you on that one.

Brutalism, I threw Grover's picture up there because it was amusing to me, and yes, I hoped he'd make the Ohio list but alas he was born in NJ. Reminds me of the scene in Forrest Gump where he's naming all the guys in his platoon and where they're from.

And at 16 2/3 points, you're just ahead of Mjenks in grading, but most of these you only win the right to be smugly satisfied that you know more than other people. Go check out last December's contest though for an idea of how prize-driven quizzes work...

Okay, so, because I know most of them, I'll try Harding, both Harrisons, Taft, Grant, Garfield...um...Hayes? And, Coolidge. I'm not sure on the last two.

And, I don't know if this is the state you're talking about, but Georgia (On My Mind), Sweet Georgia Brown, The Devil Went Down to Georgia, and Midnight Train to Georgia are all classics, in my mind.

As for other states...there's that Arrested Development song Tennessee, Yellow Rose of Texas, and, of course, sweet Johnny D singing Take Me Home, Country Roads in which he mentions West Virginia.

5, I think, is Kent State.

Pink Cadillac by Springsteen, and Elvis. And there's that song from Miss Saigon which is sung by the Engineer and has him wanting a pink cadillac. I don't remember if the word is in the title.

Well, since I'm working without so much as a map of the us on this one, you can mock me at the end of my answers:

1) Cleveland Rocks
WKRP Theme song

2) Georgia (on my mind)

3) Walking in Memphis, Country Roads, OHIO (The Brak version) and, since I'm geographically challeneged, Kentucky woman.

4) Drew Carey show/ WKRP in Cincinnatti
5) Kent State
6)Calvin Coolidge, Taft, at least one of the Roosevelts, and one of the other minor presidents...take your pick! :)

7) I bombed on six, I own Young Guns, but it's still in its original packaging, and I'm terrible with initials.
8) There was a question 8?
9) Warren G. Harding...I know the movie, but the name of the school is a guess.
10) Major League.

Do I win???????

Oh, gosh, I totally forgot about one of my favorite shows of all time, WKRP in Cincinnati!

Was Family Ties set in Ohio?

How is it I'm #2 on the You Talkin' to Me list when I never know the answers to your quizzes?

Caddyshack?

Ok, I'll say Alabama by Neil Young and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynard Skynard for #2, since no one else has, yet.

Jenks - Hayes yes, Coolidge, no.

I was also thinking of 'Rainy Night in GA' and 'The Night The Lights Went Out in GA'.

I forgot WV made it into JD's song...so that's two states we drove through with musical ties.

I thought Pink Cadillac was Aretha Franklin, Cadillac Ranch is Springsteen.

And I had to look it up, Family Ties is Columbus, OH. And shame on you for forgetting Les Nessman and Venus Flytrap!

Sarah, no Coolidge or Roosevelt.

You're right on Warren G Harding, and again on Major League.

Frank, I'm not sure how you moved up the list, but it happened. And Skynard was one that came to mind.

I looked up Family Ties after I asked the question and was delighted to find I was right. Woot.

Also, Springsteen sang a song called "Pink Cadillac". It was all a metaphor for pudenda. I can say that in polite company, right? Pudenda?

And because you can always trust Wikipedia: Pink Cadillac
